Hello, I'm Evelyn from Malaysia. Turning 20 on the 9th of September 2013.

Follow me on this journey of a petite girl from the island of North Borneo as she embarks on life and transitions from a teen to a young adult.

It's strange isn't it? How a click could lead you onto a piece of life. Reading about a stranger, word after word, page after page. Are you up for it?

Students Exchange Programme to Singapore

The trip that had brought me to the land of lions! Not that there were any real lions roaming around. Singapore isn't much of a difference to Malaysia. Sure it's a 'fine' country, the streets are a lot more cleaner(and safer), I can't find any pack of gums on the rack of any convenience store and it only took 2 full days to cover the whole country but in terms of food and culture, it's pretty much the same deal.

The programme was only 4 days long but more than enough to experience Singapore in a decent matter. 9 other students and I were chosen to represent Pre-U of Sabah College to two schools in Singapore. Along with us were our school's Principle, senior assistant of Pre-U, and four other lecturers.

We arrived on the 10th of March, night time and exhausted. The next day we went to Universal Studios or better known as USS! Gosh that place is heaven on earth! There are so many rides and different places to go it was hard to choose! Never did the phrase 'a kid in a candy store' has ever meant so much to me than it did when I entered the gates of USS. It's practically impossible to cover the place in one day! My group peeps for that day were Maria and Abby. We tried so hard to cover the whole place, we even marked our maps to be organized! However we only managed to cover, Far Far Away, Lost World, Ancient Egypt and Sci-Fi City. We were bummed out that we didn't had enough time to ride anything on Madagascar :( but we're sure this won't be our last! USS is so worth it!

Abby, Maria, Puss in Boots and I  :p

The food there wasn't too shabby too!
Pork and chicken sausages with mash potatoes and steamed veggies @ Sci-Fi City YUM!

The infamous BattleStar Galactica Coaster. Only rode the red one with Mar and Abs. Didn't had the balls to try the blue one (which goes upside down). Maria rode the blue one, twice.

Check out me and Abs' leather bracelet that we had made!

After USS, we went to SkyPark at Marina Bay Sands. I heard so much about this place and I was so psych to heard we were going! Post-roller coasters dizziness won't even stop me from admiring the view at SkyPark! Towering over the city at 50 storeys high, the 360degrees breathtaking view of the city is absoluetly beautiful! I could see the financial district, Merlion Park, Eye of Singapore, Garden by the Bay and of course the vast open sea. Now that I've seen it for myself, I could see what the hype is all about.

The glass barriers didn't really scream 'safety' for me.

On the third day of our trip, we went to visit our first school, Yishun Junior College. The students there are all younger than us even though the equivalent level of Pre-U in Malaysia to Singapore is Junior College. It's because the duration of their high school is a year or two shorter than us. We were briefed in the executive room with the Principle of Yishun and afterwards the Yishun students took us to our first class, Economics. There were roughly around 30 other Yishun students in the lecture hall and we were there to listen and observe. Further into the lecture we realized that the topic the lecturer was teaching is actually an economic topic that are thought in Form4(16 years old) back in Malaysia except that it's in English instead of Bahasa Malaysia and we were like, 'WE KNOW THIS.' and later in our next class, Bahasa Melayu, the lecturer thought us a novel that we also had learnt back in Form5(17 years old). We were surprised that the level of difficulty is not the same. By the way, they could actually use their phones to take picture of the notes shown on the slides! The lecturer actually said, 'for those of you who did not had enough time to copy down the notes, you may take out your iPhone and take picture of the slide for later reference.' Our jaws dropped and we were like, 'we couldn't even bring our phones to school!' XD and whaaaaat?? the teacher actually said, '...you may take out your iPhone..' Holly schmidt! No other phone brand ah? :P

After the classes, the Yishun students treated us by giving us a tour around their college followed by games in the Bahasa Melayu classroom and lunch at noon. They were incredibly hospitable and talkative! We kept going back and forth asking questions about their education system and yes, it's very different compared to Malaysia's. Hopefully, we'll get to meet them again someday! They're such a cheerful bunch!

Afterwards, we visited Merlion Park and the our Principal actually treated us to ice-cream sandwiches!

The next day, we visited Juying Secondary School and boy did they planned in advance! They took on two (very flamboyant and entertaining) tour guides for our visit. When we arrived in the morning, the student members of the Tourism Club of Juying greeted us and took us to the school's library where we had a short briefing by the Juying's Vice Principal, Mr Harris and then the tour guide showed us a slide about Singapore's history thereafter a group game with the Juying students. It was super fun! Afterwards, Mr Harris along with the students and tour guides treated us for a breakfast at the Mongolian Buffet Restaurant. It was so delicious! The Juying students thought so too and we weren't ashamed of taking rounds around the buffet table! :P

Then they toured us around the Singapore Arts Gallery, China Town and Little India. The S.A.G was amazing! For a person taking arts subject, this was HEAVEN to me. As for China Town and Little India, I have two words, SHOPPING.OVERLOAD. Although Bugis Street is still awesome for tourist shopping!
Words can't describe how much we enjoyed ourselves with the Juying gang. We're very grateful for their hospitality and preparations for our visit. Gosh, I hope we can see them again!

 The gang and Sir John!

 Our awesome Juying friends!

Directly after our Juying visit, we went to Orchard Road and Night Safari!

On our last day, we had the choice of going to either Singapore Science Centre or Bugis Street. I opted for Science Centre along with Maria, Abby, Mdm. Saripah, Mdm. Juelen and Sir John. We were obviously the science nerds among the group :p

and so ends the programme! We are very thankful to be a part of this programme for the amount of experiences, knowledge and friendships made are undeniably priceless. We're so thankful to our school Principal and our lecturers for their effort in making this programme a success as it was! The fond memories that were made will be engraved in our hearts! The amazing sights, the tiring walkabouts and of course the wonderful people that we've met will forever be cherished! I feel so blessed to spend this trip with my nine schoolmates on our senior year and our last year as a nine-teen years old :p
